Microplastics cleanup & sampling: Volunteers needed
July 17, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Spend an afternoon with our team sampling and cleaning up the shoreline of the Skagit River for microplastic particles — no experience needed!
Wednesday, July 17th
11am to 3pm
North Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon (map, meet across from Division St. at the park).
These microplastics contribute to the ever-growing amount of waste that enters our ocean. Microplastics under 5mm in length can be very harmful to many different aspects of our ecosystems. We will provide the necessary gear and instructions to collect samples of sediment from along the shore that will aid us in identifying microplastic sources.
By surveying this beach — part of the greater of the Puget Sound Basin — we can continue to better understand the prevalence of microplastics and garnering continued community awareness on the issue. Hope to see you there!
