Clean a beach for the International Coastal Cleanup (Whatcom Water Week)

September 18, 2021 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

As part of Whatcom Water Week (September 11th-19th), take part in the annual International Coastal Cleanup (Bellingham) with RE Sources, Ocean Conservancy, Northwest Straits Surfrider, Marine Life Center, and Whatcom Marine Resources Committee for a socially distanced beach cleanup! Supplies provided, and the first 50 people to attend will get a free ICC cleanup t-shirt! A great way to spend time outside, safely, while keeping plastic from polluting Bellingham Bay. Kids and families welcome.

Three locations for International Coastal Cleanup in Bellingham: Locust Beach (map), I&J Waterway (map), and Marine Park (map). All will be staffed from 10am-12pm on Saturday, September 18th. One small group of people picking up trash on Bellingham’s beaches can regularly collect hundreds of pounds of plastics in a single morning. Plastic left in our waters has broken down and seeped into everything from drinking water to table salt and craft beer. If you would rather gather trash on your own during Whatcom Water Week, that is also great! Please consider reporting where and how much trash you picked up using the Clean Swell App.
