You’re Invited!

Join us for an evening in celebration and support of RE Sources’ critical local environmental advocacy on Wednesday, September 18th from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Bring your curiosity and come away recharged and ready to defend and build on Northwest’s Washington’s environmental progress.

Is environmental advocacy an art or a science? When done well, it’s a convergence of both. Effective advocacy blends sound science and strong relationships, tapping into a community’s love of a place to prompt action. It’s an act of courage and curiosity.

Connect with staff at the forefront of local efforts to protect our forests, rivers and seas, keep our waters swimmable, advance a circular economy, and transition to clean energy. Enjoy appetizers, drinks and conversation, as well as hands-on exhibits exploring the science behind our latest education and advocacy initiatives. Think of it as a science fair for environmental advocates.

We are pleased to announce that special guest Rena Priest will be sharing her poetry with us.

Rena is an enrolled member of the Lhaq’temish (Lummi) Nation. She served as the 6th Washington State Poet Laureate (2021-2023) and is the recipient of awards and fellowships from the University of Washington Libraries, the Allied Arts Foundation, the Academy of American Poets, and Indigenous Nations Poets. Her debut collection, Patriarchy Blues, received an American Book Award. Her most recent book, Northwest Know-How: Beaches, includes poems, retellings of legends, and fun descriptions of 29 of the most beloved beaches in the Pacific Northwest. Her work also appears widely online and in print. Priest is currently serving as a judge for the 2024 National Book Award for poetry.

Special thanks to our host Rebecca Miller of Barnstar Events in Ferndale, and our co-hosts Crina Hoyer, Jan Dank and Marid Hendrickson, Chris Moench, and Jon Scanlon.
